Gay Documentary ‘Dancing in the Dark’ Explores Evolution of Black Club Scene [WATCH]

“There’s a lot of people they go out and that’s their life,” one man tells the camera that focuses on the Black and Latin party scene in New York City.

“It’s a lack of acceptance… they don’t get accept from their family in their life and their friends. so being in the scene, the club scene, they feel like they can just be comfortable, be accepted, they can get high, they can dance they can party and they can feel good about that. That may fill their void so that becomes their life.”

Another person reveals his addiction to the sex and emotional attachments he developed early in his gay life.

“Every day was a different theme. Every day was a different aspect of the gay life… [I was] young. I didn’t know shit about the gay community. All I knew was there was cute boys that liked me and that was all I cared about. I didn’t know there was a full blown culture behind this.”
