I’m mad! I was posting on Facebook, Twitter, and telling all my friends the Supreme Court of the United States will automatically know what’s right and do it.
What is right? On the FIRST day of their meeting decide that re-hearing Prop 8 (California’s ban on same-sex marriage) is stupid because it has already been declared unconstitutional twice, as well as announce the Defense of Marriage Act is a piece of crap. They were supposed to automatically decide both cases would not be on their list for this upcoming term. But, they didn’t do that.
According to Matt Baume with American Foundation for Equal Rights, the organization behind the Prop 8 case, the Supreme Court could make a decision as early Monday, October 1st as to whether they will re-hear the cases again. Other sources say a final decision should be in when the Supreme Court justices meet again Friday, October 5th.
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said earlier this year at a speaking event that she believes her colleagues will decide to re-hear both cases. Let’s hope she spoke wrong.
