TV’s not as gay as it used to be. [Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation] recently announced that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender characters account for 2.9 percent of regular characters in primetime scripted broadcast TV for the 2011-12 season in the United States. That’s down from 3.9 percent in 2010. The percentage of GLBT characters on primetime scripted cable TV also dipped from last year, according to GLAAD. Still, representatives for the organisation said there’s much to celebrate: From Modern Family to True Blood to Glee, many of the shows acclaimed by both critics and audiences are also invested in developing GLBT characters.

I was thinking TV is getting wayyy gayer. The rest of the article applauds FOX for their role in getting gays on screen. And, HBO also gets a mention for LaFayette (pictured above) on True Blood. And, the drop isn’t really that big. So, shout out to all the gay characters still employed and on tv!
